Day 20, 2015

Today is our last day for GAETI2015 and now I don't want to leave....lol. I have really enjoyed this past month meeting teachers from other schools and the instructors from MSU. In the beginning I thought technology was just simple computer applications. But GAETI has shown me a whole new world. The activities and information I have gained will be so beneficial for me and my future students. I learned so many exciting ways to incorporate technology into my lessons that will actually make my teaching a lot easier. GAETI really makes the statement "Work smarter not harder", so true. Teaching in the 21st century and producing 21st century learners technological skills will be the up most importance. Everyone that participated in the institute was very helpful and really exhibited professional collaboration. We just became one big happy family. If you notice my caption the little girl reading a book The Gift that is exactly what I feel GAETI 2015 has given me.  I  want to thank Dr. Bracey and her staff for allowing me to participate in this institute. The knowledge and experiences that I have encountered this month is priceless. Thank you teachers for teaching me how to become a better teacher.

During our session today I learned how to utilize an iPad in the classroom. My partner and I completed a our Web Quest on Biomes from yesterday. It actually turned out to be very interesting. I had no idea of all the interesting things you can do and create for the classroom. Once I figure out how all this works it definitely will make my life and teaching much easier. During my art session it finally looks like ART....(laugh). No, honestly I am enjoying art the most. It gives me time to sit quietly and focus on my project also my mind, body, and soul relaxes during this time. Creating a review quiz and newspaper with Dr. Lee was fun. I have learned some very exciting things that I would love to do with my students.

Today was another awesome day at GAETI2015. It was interesting to actually partake in a Skype session with Dr. Beriswill and Dr.  Lee. Creating online presentations using our microphones was exciting as well. All the numerous years I've been attending MSU I had never visited the T.K. Martin Center which we visited on today. I learned a lot of interesting information. During the last sessions of the day Dr. Lee demonstrated how to create and use Blog and Wiki in the classroom. We are currently working on a Web Quest which is fun also. GAETI 2015 is a blast.

Technology Day!! I learned some very interesting things today concerning technology and how its being used in our neighboring districts. It very ironic how we are so close in distance but at the same time be so far behind. This summer institute has really provided me with helpful resources that I really plan to utilize this upcoming school year. Mrs. James presentation was informative thanks for coming.

The past two days has been filled with so many new resources and ways to use technology that I've just become overwhelmed. I have began to create my very own website, provide my students with games to aid in their learning while having fun. The GAETI2015 Institute has been very informative on how I can utilize and implement technology into my classroom the upcoming school year.

GAETI 2015 Day 4

Wow!! I visited a place which has been ten years ago during my student teaching. Going back today and seeing the progression of the mining was awesome. It's wonderful to see how they take a piece of land, remove the dirt in layers, mined the coal out, and then restore the area back to its original state. The workers equipment gives a new name to the concept of "big" they are humongous. I found it to be awesome that they are able to use almost all the products in some way. After our tour we did an activity on the way water takes up space. I think this would be an exciting, interesting, as well as educational field trip for students and teachers.

GAETI 2015 Day 3

Today I gained important information from the Mississippi Department of Education that was conducted by Mr. Vincent Segalini. He provided helpful information about the College Career Readiness Standards (CCRS). I enjoyed learning how to analyze a lesson plan to determine its effectiveness before implementation. After lunch my teammates and I went on a scavenger hunt utilizing GPS as our navigation. This activity was very exciting just wished it was conducted during the morning hours. We learned how to create a QRS code that I plan to use with my students in the future. Dr. Beriswill activity was especially interesting I learned how to create my own online resources of games and activities to used with my students. I've combined a collection of online games for my students to help them understand objectives and concepts they will be taught in the fall. This also provides a digital resource for me as a teacher. Look out Day 4 we are going on a field trip.

Today was just beautiful.... it filled with lots of informational as well as fun activities. We visited the library to participate in creating our own map using Google Earth and Google Maps. I was very excited to have had the opportunity of visiting the Kinsey Collection of African American Treasures. To actually be in the presence of history and viewing  the artifacts and authentic art  was heartwarming. Afterwards, a guest speaker gave a presentation on the Civil Rights Movement that was very interesting as well as informational. I was informed on information concerning the Civil Rights Movement that I had no idea existed. I can say you really learn something new everyday. I really enjoyed the geography activity utilizing receipt paper to represent a timeline of the origin of earth. It's only been two days but it has been awesome and I'm sure its going to be even better tomorrow.
